How to Taste Wine
The Classic Tasting Approach:
- Tip the wine on an angle in the glass against a light background to observe the colour , intensity and clarity both at the rim and near the core of the stem of your wine glass.
- Get your nose in the glass and sniff often and lightly as opposed to deep snorts! If you feel like you are loosing the odours or getting them confused then smell your arm to neutralize and try again.
- Take a sip and swirl it all around to coat your mouth and tongue to get a sense of the flavours. Suck in some air to oxygenate the wine and open up its flavours even more. Spit it out to get a sense of the acidity, tannins and alcohol.
