Weingut Knoll Federspiel – Riesling – 2013 (Metrovino)
A bit of a steeper investment but this wine comes from the famous Wachau in Austria and the Austrians don’t release a great deal of this wine to the export market. The classifications they use are Steinfeder (light body) to Federspiel (medium body) to Smaragd (full body). And Federspiel is named after a falcon that is commonly hunted in the area. Great tradition here and I am so glad I had a chance to taste it but I may have jumped the gun as it could be aged a bit more.
Tasting Notes: Lots of citrus with lemon, lime and grapefruit. There is great mineral presence and racy acidity. Hints of herbs and savoury notes on the back palate.
