Tempranillo
Tempranillo is a black grape variety widely grown to make full-bodied red wines. It is commonly found in the vineyards of Northern and Central Spain. Generally speaking it is a lower acid but higher tannin wine. The key identifying markers for me are leather and cherry.
In terms of food pairings it goes very well with tomato based sauces, BBQ and smoked meats but my personal favourite has always been lamb.
The six wines tasted in this flight were:
CVNE – Rioja Reserva – 2013 (J.Webb)
iturria – Tinto – 2014 (Bin 905)
Antidoto – Ribera del Duero – 2014 (Kensington Wine Market)
Bordon – Rioja Gran Reserva – 2007 (Willow Park)
Venta Las Vacas – Ribera del Duero – 2013 (Zyn)
Vina Cubillo Crianza – Rioja – 2008 (Metrovino)
