Castel Sallegg – Pinot Grigio – 2015 (J.Webb)
This is the only bottle labeled Pinot Grigio of the tasting from the north end of Italy in the Alto Adige region. Of all the tastings I have done...
Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are the same grape but the style of a Pinot Gris will be more full bodied whereas the Pinot Grigio will be lighter bodied and possibly more neutral in style. I look for racier acidity in a Pinot Grigio and a hint of almond whereas the Pinot Gris is more likely to have more tropical notes and honey.
In terms of food pairings Pinot Grigio goes very nicely with Spaghetti Carbonara where I would dare to put a Pinot Gris with a spicy Thai dish.
