Alkoomi – Riesling – 2016 (Willow Park)

So this well priced Riesling hails from the Frankland River in the deep Southwest corner of Australia.  I think the value comes from the fact that the Eden and Clare Valleys have received much acclaim as well but at a much greater cost. Alkoomi is aboriginal for “a place we have chosen”, and they have chosen well.  I think this is a wine with a lot of interesting things going on!  Softer and a little dialled down on acidity but pretty good complexity at the price point.

Tasting Notes:  Great zest and a real citrus presence but right from the nose to the palate I get some petrol and pure minerality. Impressive!
