Dr. Deinhard – Spatburgunder – 2014 (Metrovino)
Interesting that the Cistercian monks were rumoured to have brought Pinot Noir to Germany in the region of Pfalz where this Spatburgunder (German Pinot Noir) is from. Both Pfalz in Germany and Alsace in France have a tendency to make lighter versions of Pinot Noir but this one has decent concentration. Spatburgunders are improving more and more each year and I think this one is a bit of a steal based on the quality.
Tasting Notes: Nice presence of red fruits, both red currant and cherry. There are great violet floral qualities on the nose. A wonderfully balanced wine.
