Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River – Chardonnay – 2015 (Bin 905)
I had to include a Chardonnay from California given their success at the Judgement of Paris in 1976. This Russian River example takes advantage of the fog which ensures steady temperatures and slow ripening of the fruit. This creates ripe fruit flavors on the palate. The oak is not as well integrated as I would like but there are some nice tertiary aspects to this wine starting to develop. Very good but not wow!
Tasting Notes: Ripe flavours of peach and pear both on the palate and nose but also some butterscotch, nut and vanilla coming through on the finish. The wine may need some time to mellow as the secondary and tertiary components are not unifying for me.
