Silkscarf – Gewurztraminer – 2016
The tasting room at Silkscarf Winery is intimate and the property gives lovely views of the lake from a slightly elevated point.
Their 2016 Gewurztraminer is very dry and a little lighter in body which is a bit of a change if you are more used to an oily fragrant full-bodied Alsatian style. I pick up the lychee and rose hip on the nose. Grapefruit and lychee are the winners on the front palate followed by some baking spices, particularly allspice and cinnamon on the mid palate.
This wine has noticeably higher acidity and a crispness that is amped up from an old-world style. A decent wine at a fair price point.
